The Bike Barn and Radford Bike & Paddle Shop are locally owned, independently operated, one-of-a-kind shops. We’re passionate about our community and we’re passionate about bicycles and the outdoors.

Over the years, both shops have developed a reputation for listening to what our customers want, and delivering on their requests. We believe cycling is one of those things that many more people would love if they tried, no matter what kind of riding you may like.

We are here to support you on your journey with your bicycle as your vehicle. Road, mountain, or city riding, we do all of the above. Our focus is on value, meaning good quality, without the premium price. We take the time to handpick all the products we carry, and we stand 110% behind our services and everything we sell.

Our beginnings were humble. Yusef Messallam–a former and current tech student–started the Bike Barn as a way to make some money on the side while attending classes. He would advertise his services by word of mouth, and worked out of his living room. As customers began referring their friends over, he soon developed a following of people who were looking for the kind of attention to detail, and personable customer service afforded to them. As the Bike Barn customer base grew larger so did our locations.

Radford Bike & Paddle Shop was started by Johnny & Denise Garrett, proprietors of Claytor Lake Water Sports. Johnny and Denise both graduated from Radford University, and Johnny, being a Recreation, Parks and Tourism major felt the desire to have a well-rounded outdoor store in Radford. Johnny continues to operate Claytor Lake Water Sports during the summer months as Denise focuses primarily on the bike shops.

In January 2011 Blake Aldridge joined us as a partner and together we purchased the Bike Barn and moved it to a larger location on North Main Street across from the Virginia Tech entrance. Yusef continues to work with us and Blake serves as the full-time manager of Bike Barn.

Our selection is even larger than ever before! Today, we constantly look for ways to provide better service to our customers and to make the sport of cycling more enjoyable by offering quality, value-focused products.
